How to Find a Lost Pet

Your pet, a member of the family, is missing. What steps do you take to find your loved one? These are some general quidelines to aid in your search.

  1. Always keep a collar with identification tags on your pet. Even cats need to wear collars. Most pet stores carry a break-away collar specially made for cats. An ID tag could easily reunite you and your pet.
  2. Take action as quickly as possible. The more time is wasted, the greater the separation becomes for you and your pet. Don't think you are over-reacting.
  3. Report your pet lost to all local Humane Societies, veterinarians and animal conrol facilities. Use this list as an easy reference:

    • Humane Society's Mountain Shelter, Blairsville GA - 706-745-3843
    • Union County Animal Control, Blairsville GA - 706-745-0851
    • North Georgia SPCA, Blairsville GA - 706-745-7722
    • Castaway Critters, Hiawassee GA - 706-781-3992
    • Gateway Animal Rescue, Blue Ridge NC - 706-258-2367
    • Tri-County Humane Society, Marble NC - 828-837-2304
    • TLC Humane Society, Dahlonega GA - 706-864-2817

  4. Run an ad in the local newspaper as soon as possible.
  5. Notify local radio stations.
  6. Make flyers with your pet's photo and post it in veterinarian's offices, grocery stores and anywhere else it will be seen by a large number of people.
  7. Don't give up hope! Wherever your pet is, he/she is still looking for you and hoping to be found very soon.
